MORRIS IN LIONS RETURN

LEICESTER will welcome Australian star Nick Morris back into their team as preparations continue for the 2026 Premiership campaign.

Morris, 31, made his comeback to UK racing during the second half of last season after the completion of a two-year suspension from the sport.

And he says he returns to the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park keen to pay back everyone at the club for the events which ended his racing in 2023.

Morris was previously a high-scoring member of the Lions’ Championship team in 2021/22, and he remained with the club for their step up to the top-flight the following year.

But he was suspended by the Speedway Control Bureau for failing to comply with an anti-doping test prior to a meeting at Birmingham in July 2023, which also resulted in significant team changes for the Lions.

Having served his suspension, Morris returned to Championship racing with Berwick last summer and was then recruited by Sheffield in the Premiership – with his season ironically coming to an end in a crash during the dramatic play-off semi-final against the Lions at Owlerton.

He has an extensive working relationship with Lions manager Stewart Dickson, and his 5.89 average will see him slot nicely into the middle-order under the reduced points limit of 37.

Morris said: “I’m really excited to be back with Leicester, it’s a club I have loved racing for.

“I feel I owe it to them and all the people who I let down, and everyone who has supported me, to put in a big season there.

“I just want to work hard and win races, and being back with Stewart, the man who brought me to the UK when I was 15, I would love nothing more to win a league title for Leicester.”

With Morris, Ryan Douglas, Sam Masters, Dan Thompson and Dan Gilkes now named as confirmed starters, Lions have two riders remaining to complete their team building.
